Elders & Deacons

We currently have seven board members: Jarrod Flora, J.T. Teegarden, David Hord, Adam Henson, Bryan Purcell and Chris Spencer.

The role of the elders and deacons is to shepherd the church alongside the pastoral staff in accordance with God's direction.

Justin loves Jesus, his wife Sarah, writing, barbecue and baseball. He is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and can always be seen sporting some kind of Cubs gear. Justin is an avid guitar player and collector. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Kentucky Christian University, and is currently a PhD candidate at Johnson University. Additionally, he serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Bible and Ministry department of Kentucky Christian University. It is his passion to see others come into a relationship with Christ and deepen their knowledge of God's Word. 

Bringing the Word of God to the world is Zach’s passion. Whether he is preaching, teaching or simply conversing, Zach's heart is to make Jesus known. Outside the Church, Zach loves to play sports, read, and watch the Astro’s dominate Major league baseball. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Bible and Ministry from Kentucky Christian University, and is looking forward to graduate school to obtain a Master’s degree in Theology.

Josh has been serving in the church as long as he can remember. Whether it be playing drums, greeting at the door, or helping with the youth. Josh is currently in his last semester at Kentucky Christian University, and is studying as a double major of Business Management and Biblical Studies. He has spent the last 4 years at KCU playing on the soccer team, along with playing in the worship collective as a drummer. His heart for the youth began during his first summer at Kentucky Christian while doing camp teams, which is a program that sends teams of students to go at work at church camps throughout the summer. Ever since then he has loved every chance to help with the youth of the church. Being able to bring the joy of Jesus Christ to the young people in the church is a blessing that Josh thanks God for every day.

Sarah is super passionate about coming alongside others and encouraging them through Scripture, specifically women and children. She has a heart for connecting children and their families in worship and study of the Word. Sarah enjoys spending most of her time hanging out with her husband, Justin, and creating new adventures during their travels together. She is a corgi lover and loves hanging out with their fur baby, Stanley! Most days you will find her reading, watching college football (Go Bucks!), or designing new spaces around their house. She graduated from Marshall University with a degree in Elementary Education and has obtained a Master’s degree from Liberty University in Professional Counseling, serving as a Mental Health Counselor in a private practice.

Courtney is currently working toward her Bachelors degree in Nursing at Kentucky Christian University. She loves to take care of others and help lead them closer to Christ. She is from Fairborn, Ohio and first began leading worship when she was in youth group at the church she grew up in. She loves animals but especially her neighbors chickens. She also likes to watch gymnastics, eat Chick-fil-A, and sing. She is currently apart of the Worship Collective at Kentucky Christian University and has the opportunity to lead worship on campus for students and staff. She is excited to be leading worship here at Highland and is looking forward to see how God will continue to work.

Brett has a passion for serving others, technology, and the genuine connections that Christ creates. Every week he works diligently to make sure each service goes off without a hitch and to make sure the most people can effectively hear the Word of God. Outside of church you can find him watching college football, hanging out with friends, or farming. He graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelors’s in Business Information Systems.
